After an affiliation that began last year, the father-and-son re-recording mixing team of Michael and Christian Minkler are officially on the team at Sony Pictures Post Production Services.

"We are on the cusp of a major shift in movie sound," said Michael Minkler in a prepared statement. "The integration of picture and sound is nearly complete, and that will allow us to do some magical things. Sony understands that and is ready to make the move."

Michael Minkler is a three-time Oscar winner (for Black Hawk DownChicago, and Dreamgirls) with a total of 11 nominations under his belt and more than 250 movies on his resume.

Christopher Minkler's first film as a mixer was Natural Born Killers; since then, he has worked on Independence Day, The Alamo, August: Osage County, and Babel, among others.

Recent projects the Minklers worked on together have included InsurgentConcussion, and The Hateful Eight. In fact, Sony Pictures says Concussion was the first film the two Minklers had worked on together in almost 20 years, dating back to Alfonso Cuarón’s Great Expectations in 1998.

"The name Minkler is synonymous with excellence in sound," said Tom McCarthy.

"We've set up our own cutting room where we can work out ideas for upcoming shows and try out new software and sound tools," Christian Minkler said in a statement. "The people at Sony have gone out of their way to make us feel comfortable."
