Archion Technologies became the latest vendor to announce support for the Network Device Interface (NDI) standard for IP production workflow launched by NewTek earlier this year.

Archion says its EditStor Velo NAS is the first networked storage system that can be automatically recognized and mounted by NDI-enabled devices and other systems on a network, giving them access to file-based video and audio over IP. "We are proud to be the first storage manufacturer to adopt NDI in collaboration with the NewTek team," said Archion CTO James Tucci in a prepared statement.

The NewTek NDI protocol allows compatible devices, including individual workstations running NewTek NDI software, to be recognized as video sources and destinations over an Ethernet LAN. NDI is a bi-directional standard, allowing SDI cabling to be replaced with Ethernet connections that allow the same device to both send and receive files.

NDI is available as a royalty-free SDK for developers who want to incorporate the protocol in their products. At NAB, NewTek released Connect Pro ($995 or $49/month), software designed to allow a host computer to connect up to four cameras, decks or other devices and to serve files for playback. Connect Pro supports capture devices from vendors including AJA, Blackmagic Design, Bluefish444 and others. The included NDI Connect Webserver allows NDI sources to be viewed from any networked browser, including iOS and Android devices. And a special NDI plug-in for Adobe Creative Cloud ($99) allows media to be sent directly from the Premiere Pro timeline into a production switcher for live playback without waiting for a file to render.
