Screening at the Venice International Film Festival, Whiplash director Damien Chazelle's new film, the well-reviewed Emma Stone-Ryan Gosling musical La La Land may represent the official kick-off of Oscar season. Variety's Kristopher Tapley opines, "If Whiplash was the warning shot, La La Land is the heavy artillery." Linus Sandgren (Joy, American Hustle) was the DP. It's due in theaters this December.
