Two new Angénieux Type EZ lenses have been designed for the emerging categories of large-sensor cameras, such as the Red Weapon 8K VV, the ARRI Alexa 65 (and the Alexa in open-gate mode), and full-frame DSLRs.

The company says the new lenses are meant to sit between existing DSLR-style lenses and high-end cine lenses and make the most sense for ENG-style shooting. The lenses will be switchable between Super 35 (30mm diagonal image) and VistaVision (46mm diagonal image) operation with the exchange of the rear optical section.

The Angenieux Type EZ-1 zoom is a 45–135mm F2.8/T3 lens when in full-frame mode or 30–90mm F1.9/T2 in Super 35 configuration. The Type EX-2 is a 22–60mm F2.8/T3 full-frame lens or 15–40mm F1.9/T2 in Super 35 configurations.

"When converting the image circle between S35 and VistaVision, the field of view remains fairly identical, so there are no crop factors to worry about," said Angenieux Product Line Manager Christophe Remontet in a prepared statement.

In the video below, BandPro's Randy Wedick demonstrates the new lenses.

The lenses are expected to ship in Q1 2017.
