After making a series of price cuts, Convergent Design has made the Titan HD Extract feature a free upgrade for its Odyssey and Apollo monitor/recorders. Introduced last September, the Titan option enabled users to record multiple reframed HD signals from a single 4K camera input.

Originally launched as a $1,295 upgrade but available recently for as little as $295 after special discounts, Titan allows the HDMI or SDI signal from a 4K camera (or 4K raw output from Sony’s FS5, FS7 and FS700) to be broken up into three HD video signals, or angles. One of those signals is a supersampled version of the full image area, while two more duplicate selected windows inside the larger frame at HD resolution. Those windows can be panned through the 4K image, and users can live-switch (either cuts or dissolves) among the three angles. All four HD signals — the raw captures and the live-switched version of the program — can be recorded to Apple ProRes with matching timecode and file names. An EDL is also generated.

The new v2017.06 firmware update also adds VariCam LT raw recording support to the Odyssey Raw Bundle at up to 60fps in 4K and 240fps in 2K. In addition, both Apollo and Odyssey models can now record Avid DNxHD at 145Mbps and 220 Mbps. The Odyssey can record one DNxHD stream, and the Apollo (or the Odyssey with the optional Apollo upgrade) can record four simultaneous streams. A new transfer tool has been released to handle DNxHD.

Registered users can grab the new code from Convergent Design’s firmware page.
