Magewell this week announced two new dedicated NDI encoders aimed at users who want an inexpensive way to convert HDMI or SDI video signals to NDI for use on IP networks.

The Pro Convert HDMI TX and Pro Convert SDI TX NDI encoders are a less expensive alternative to Magewell’s Pro Convert Plus hardware with encode-only functionality. The company’s Pro Convert Plus models have signal loopthrough connections and can be easily switched between encoding and decoding modes, but the TX configurations are designed as high-quality, low-latency NDI encoders without the extra bells and whistles.

“The powerful and comprehensive features of our Pro Convert Plus devices have made them very popular, but many customers don’t need signal loop-through connectivity nor the flexibility of switchable encoding and decoding capabilities in one box,” said Magewell Sales Director Amy Zhou in a prepared statement. “The Pro Convert TX models let us offer the same core encoding functionality at a lower price, thus making the growing ecosystem of NDI solutions more accessible to more customers than ever before.”

Some features from the more expensive units have been held over in the TX versions, including Power-over-Ethernet support, tally lights for program and preview, PTZ camera control via NDI, and a 1/4″-20 thread for mounting. The HDMI TX supports input at resolutions up to 2048×1200 over HDMI 1.4, while the SDI TX can handle up to 1080p60 via 3G-SDI.

Magewell also makes a Pro Convert AIO RX NDI decoder, which is used to convert NDI streams into SDI or HDMI signals for connecting to monitors and projectors.

All of Magewell’s Pro Convert products will be on display at InfoComm 2019, coming up June 12-14 in Orlando, FL.
