Blackmagic Design released v1.5 of its Blackmagic Raw software, enabling support for the Blackmagic Raw codec in Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer.

The Blackmagic Raw v1.5 update includes free plug-ins for Premiere Pro and Media Composer allowing the native use of Blackmagic Raw files. If projects are transferred from either NLE to Blackmagic’s own DaVinci Resolve for color and finishing, the camera raw metadata is preserved.

The major editorial outlier now is Apple’s Final Cut Pro X, which still lacks Blackmagic Raw support.

“Blackmagic Raw is now available for editors working on all major professional NLEs,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO, seemingly omitting FCP X from the conversation. “It’s exciting because you can now edit native Blackmagic RAW files in Premiere Pro and Media Composer and then finish them in DaVinci Resolve without needing to create proxy files, all without ever losing quality!”

Blackmagic Raw v1.5 is a free download from the company’s website.

In other Blackmagic Raw news, the company announced its new Blackmagic Video Assist 12G, a monitor and recorder with a claimed 2500-nit display that comes in both five-inch and seven-inch models. Blackmagic said it supports recording SDI or HDMI output from any camera in formats up to 2160p60 — and that it will allow the option of recording Blackmagic Raw over SDI from certain cameras, including Panasonic’s EVA1 and Canon’s C300 Mark II.

Both new units are shipping this month, Blackmagic said. The Blackmagic Video Assist 5″ 12G HDR is priced at $795, and the Blackmagic Video Assist 7″ 12G HDR goes for $995.
