Boxx Technologies said it has begun offering overclocked Intel Core X-Series i7 and i9 processors as an option in its Apexx X-class workstations.

The X series CPUs are available with up to 18 cores for “extreme mega-tasking,” Boxx said. Overclocked, four of those cores run at 4.5 GHz and 14 of them at 4.4 GHz, a nice uptick from the base frequency of 2.6–3.0 GHz.

The Apexx X3 workstation (starting price: $4,877) includes the optionally overclocked 18-core Intel Core X-Series processor with up to 128 GB of memory and support for two Nvidia or AMD graphics cards. The Apexx X4 (starting price: $6,323) has the same specs but supports up to four GPUs (depending on the GPU model) and is rack-mountable.

“Film editors, animators, visual effects artists, and other creative pros choose BOXX because of our commitment to providing the latest technology designed to accelerate their workflows,” said Boxx VP of Marketing Bill Leasure in a prepared statement. “Professional overclocking is a key component of what makes us unique in the workstation market, so by working with our partners at Intel, we’re able to optimize the performance of these innovative Intel X-Series processors and provide customers with serious ROI.”
