Fujifilm announced that the Hollywood Film Company in Sun Valley, CA, is once again distributing Fujifilm motion-picture negative. The companies positioned the news as an indicator of Fujifilm's commitment to cinematographers and the continued importance of negative movie film to cinematographers.

When Fujifilm first started selling film stock to the North American market back in 1967, HFC was its exclusive distributor. The new arrangement is non-exclusive. "HFC will handle daily sales and administrative duties and offer 24-hour service seven days a week," Alan Fraser, Fujifilm's VP Motion Picture for North America, told StudioDaily. "Our Fujifilm sales team will offer product and technical support with cinematographers, end users, and labs, and continue Fujifilm branding exposure through trade show and education facilities."

Fujifilm's motion-picture division is just one component of its North American operations, which contribute to a $25.8 billion business worldwide, including revenues from digital printing equipment, medical systems, flat-panel display materials, and office products. Distributor HFC, an eight-time Oscar-winner, is coming up on its 75th year in business. In addition to film stock from Fujifilm, it offers film storage and film "rejuvenation" services and manufactures a variety of equipment including color analyzers, densitometers, motion picture printers, stroboscan projectors, film splicers, and more.

CORRECTION: The original version of this story incorrectly said that HFC represents another film-stock manufacturer in addition to Fuji. HFC informs us that its relationship with that manufacturer ended in 2010 and HFC now sells only Fujifilm stock. The article has been corrected.
