It will be a very ILM SIGGRAPH, as Industrial Light & Magic's 40th anniversary is commemorated at a special August 10 event during the 42nd annual SIGGRAPH Conference, taking place August 9–13 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
"In addition to our amazing program [of production sessions], we're celebrating ILM's 40th anniversary with a special presentation," said SIGGRAPH 2015 Production Sessions Program Chair Roy C. Anthony in a prepared statement. "ILM has had such a massive impact on people around the world, and especially in production roles, and we wanted to commemorate their work."
In addition to the special presentation, ILM will be on stage at a few other production sessions: "The Park Is Open: Journey to Jurassic World with Industrial Light & Magic, "Fix the Future: Industrial Light & Magic and Visual Effects of Tomorrowland," and "The Making of the Characters of Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron," where ILM will be joined by Marvel Entertainment and Lola VFX.
SIGGRAPH's production sessions are highlights of the conference in which VFX and animation artists describe their creation of key scenes and signature visuals over the previous year, sometimes describing hidden challenges and revealing innovative techniques. Weta Digital gets its own SIGGRAPH showcase this year, with "Weta Digital Presents: Over 20 Years of Creativity and Innovation." Other production sessions will take a look at the making of film titles including Big Hero 6, "Lava," Inside Out, The Book of Life, CHAPPiE, Home, The Peanuts Movie, and Ant-Man.
