The Hollywood Post Alliance announced that it will honor Panasonic with its 2015 Engineering Award for the 4K imager the company developed for its VariCam 35 4K camera/recorder. The HPA award, which will be given during the organization's tenth annual gala on November 12 in Los Angeles, recognizes new technology that meets the rigors of real-world production and post demands with innovative and practical workflows.

Known for its low-light shooting and multiple recording formats, from HD ProRes to 4K RAW, the VariCam 35 no doubt gained points with HPA judges for how well it plays with the post pipeline. The camera supports ACES color management workflow, provides in-camera color correction and can record up to three video formats (4K + 2K + Proxy or UHD + HD + Proxy) at once. With dual-native ISOs of 800 and 5000, it also makes shooting in the dark less of a headache for a back-end increasingly stressed by the continued rise in resolutions and recorded data.
