Synergy HD System is Compatible With Unity

It may be the giants of the post-production business that draw the spotlight, but it’s often the innovative support players that solve day-to-day problems for the Hollywood editing community in the most cost-effective way.
Archion Technologies, based near many of the nation’s largest post houses in Burbank, CA, has built a reputation designing advanced networked storage systems for video facilities. The company’s founders were the first to successfully combine eight Avid NLEs and one TB of networked RAID storage for post work on the film The Thin Red Line in 1998.
Today, Archion continues to develop high-availability, fault-tolerant networked storage arrays for professional editors, especially those using Avid systems. It also sells standalone systems. The company has just introduced Synergy HD, a storage system that’s compatible with all versions of Avid’s Unity from 3.x through 4.2.x.
The Archion system competes directly with Avid’s MediaArray LP storage solution. Jim Tucci, chief technology officer for Archion, said that unlike Avid’s product, Synergy HD does not require video facilities to replace their existing fully operational hardware and software infrastructure when looking to significantly increase storage capacity. Synergy HD’s hardware RAID protection also completely eliminates the need for mirroring of storage for protection – which is how Avid’s Unity system backs up files.
The Synergy HD storage array provides up to 60 TB of usable RAID protected storage for any Avid Unity system. By comparison, Avid’s MediaArray solution allows 20 TB of protected storage.
Synergy HD is a SATA II to fibre-channel RAID storage system that comes pre-configured in units of four, six or eight TB of storage in a high density 3-RU design with 16 drives. Its built-in hardware RAID manages the storage and automatically rebuilds a faulty drive so the network is unaffected by a failure.
The company offers another version of the system, designed for networking digital video systems, that’s certified for use with Avid Unity, Media Manager, Interplay, Adrenaline HD, Express Pro HD, Symphony Nitris, Meridian, Symphony and Nitris DS.
An 8 TB version of Synergy HD is priced at $19,995. For more information, visit http://www.archion.com/.
