Imagineer Systems may have recently come on to the radar for editors when a version their mocha VFX application was bundled with Adobe After Effects CS4. mocha is a 2D tracking and rotoscoping tool that uses planes instead of points to perform a track. Imagineer Systems has recently released mocha for Final Cut Pro as well. From the Imagineer Systems website:

mocha for Final Cut is a stand alone 2D tracking and rotoscoping tool designed for the Final Cut Studio community. It is packed with features that help editors and VFX artists tackle more complex jobs and enable them to finish projects within Final Cut.

mocha for Final Cut generates solid 4-point tracks based on Imagineer’s unique Planar Tracking technology, giving position, scale, rotation, shear and perspective matched tracks and exports the data to Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express as XML files.

I’ve been playing around with mocha for Final Cut and it is a very powerful tool. I recently had to blur out a logo in a shot and with mocha it was quick and easy. Combine mocha for Final Cut with mocha Shape for Final Cut and the many hours of frustration with garbage mattes will be a thing of the past. Check out the demo videos and download a trial version. At $200 for mocha for Final Cut and $99 for mocha Shape for Final Cut these are some very powerful tools at a reasonable price. And as of this writing there’s a 15% discount!
