In just a couple of days I’ll be heading to Las Vegas for the 2010 NAB show. This year I’m happy to say that I’ll be leading a couple of classes at the Post|Production World conference as well as a talk at the new Post Pit. The classes may be of interest if you are looking to learn more about Avid Media Composer or music videos.

The first class on Tuesday morning at 10:oo am is Avid Media Composer for Final Cut Pro Editors, part of the Avid Editing Workshop:

This course will look at using Avid Media Composer from the perspective of the editor who uses Final Cut Pro on a regular basis. We will take a project from initial ingest of footage through to the final output and finishing. This course can be for the experienced Final Cut Pro editor who wants to move to Avid or those that might be curious about other editing options outside of what Apple has to offer.

I think this class can be very beneficial if you’re curious about Media Composer since Avid offers a free 30-day demo of the application. It will allow anyone to work with the application for free.

The second class, on Wednesday at 10:00 am, is Music Video Workflow:

This course will look at the post-production path of a music video all the way through the post process. Topics will include logging, auxiliary timecode, multi-clipping or grouping, syncing and prepping for online (among others). Formats discussed will range from film acquisition, to RED to DSLRs. Software discussed will be both Avid Media Composer and Final Cut Pro.

If you’re working professionally as an editor and want to work more efficiently with music videos or if you’re a director/editor who wants to shoot and edit your own pieces then you’ll probably find something of interest in this class.

Finally, on Wednesday at 3:30 pm, stop by the Post Pit for the Editing a Canon 5D Multicamera Concert discussion. In this short segment, part of the new Post Pit that is located in the South Hall, we’ll discuss some of the challenges and workflow that was involved in the recent Gary Allan: Live from the House of Blues special that I edited for Great American Country. Acquiring the image on a 7 Canon 5Ds presented some interesting issues.

I hope to see you there!
