Gates had been on staff at Digital Dimension for three years and worked in varying capacities on more than a dozen films. He was also part of a team that won an Emmy Award for the opening graphics to the Super Bowl XXXVI broadcast. Additionally, he was involved in research and development efforts and assisted with the facility’s production pipeline. Gates’ background also includes an earlier stint at Encore Hollywood as a Visual Effects Artist.
Gates began his career as a special effects make-up artist. He eventually formed his own company and worked on film and television productions for Disney, among others. In the mid 1990s he switched to digital effects and joined the broadcast design firm REZN8 in 2001.
