In-Demand Director/Photographer Has Been Working Non-Stop Since New Company Launch
"We established McNamara Film Company to be a creative collective bringing the vision of clients and creative teams into an open collaborative atmosphere," adds Garza. "The company provides the highest production quality for broadcast TV spots and commercial print."
As a team, McNamara and Garza are an explosive production tour de force. Their meticulous hands-on approach in the entire creative process comes from their acknowledgement that relationships are key to the company's heart and longevity.
David McNamara brings over 20 years of experience in photography, award-winning commercials and independent films. He began his career as a still photographer, and quickly grew to an in-house director for commercial production at DDB NY. After winning a Clio for his Martell Cognac campaign and two Addys for his Mobil Oil and Bermuda Shorts campaigns, he formed production company Fly Films where he amassed a large body of work for advertisers such as HBO, ESPN, Reebok, GE, Southwest Airlines and Apple Computers.
McNamara's ability to direct real people and capture genuine performances caught the attention of Maysles Films, which invited him to head up its Maysles Shorts Division. During his tenure, McNamara directed spots and long-format films for Wal-Mart, General Motors, Citibank, AT&T, Verizon, Rolex, and CBS. In addition to these corporate campaigns, he also directed award-winning public service work for the Maryland Dept of Health, Anti-Smoking Campaign, American Red Cross and the City Kids Foundation. His roster of celebrity talent includes Andy Warhol, Demi Moore, Joe Montana, Jeff Gordon, Grant Hill, Cindy Crawford and the Duchess of York, among many others.
Amidst his successful commercial career, McNamara also directed two short films, "Limbo," which he also wrote, and "The Collector." "Limbo" won at the Malibu Film Festival and Garden State Film Festival for Best Cinematography, Best Direction and Best Picture. He is currently developing "Limbo" into a full-length feature film.
Michael Garza has spent 10+ years in the film industry producing commercials, features and independent films as well as content for NBC & NASDAQ. He got his start working on the "Law & Order" TV series and then moved onto features such as "Stuart Little" and "People I Know." As a freelancer in commercial production, Garza has worked with RSA, @radical.media, and Partizan.
Outside of McNamara Film Company, Garza continues his passion for producing independent films. Credits include the Ryan Fleck-directed short, "Gowanus, Brooklyn," which won best short at Sundance 2004 and later went on to become the Oscar-nominated "Half Nelson;" "Fretful," a comedic short, currently in production in NYC; "Divergence," a Method Fest Best Picture-winning feature, and a PBS-funded documentary; and "Keep Your Ear on the Ball," set to air nationally in 2007.
"One of our greatest assets is the excellence of our crews across the country and abroad, many of whom have more than a decade-long history of working with David," says Garza. "This says a lot about what kind of person and visionary David really is. His extensive experience and technical expertise is the common thread that binds the standards of McNamara Film Company."
"To excel and produce maximum-quality work, we must pull from our resources and combine our strengths and creative energies," concludes McNamara. "We jumped right out of the gate, and have been working relentlessly. It's not only exciting, but also a nice validation of our production excellence to be given that trust from our clients."
