1080, Inc., formerly Match Frame,
has appointed Kent Feeler as director of VFX and Drew Dela Cruz as
lead Inferno artist.
Fresh from a decade of effects work at Encore Video (Hollywood),
Feeler’s most recent work includes the Fox Network’s “House”, HBO’s
“Deadwood”, “Six Feet Under” and “Carnivalle”. Prior to Encore, he
did Paintbox artist stints at Post Hollywood (’89-’97) and Dallas
Post (’86-’87).

Reflects Feeler: “I’ve known (1080’s) Ken Ashe for 14 years now. We
had talked about my wanting to move back to Texas and make a
lifestyle change. Also, about getting out of the corporate
environment and into a family-type run business,” he says, “where I
could have input in terms of visual effects supervision, creative
input and be more involved in the operation of a post facility.”

Feeler concedes that when he left Dallas to come to LA, he always
knew he’d be coming back. “I’m very happy to be here,” he remarks,
“and look forward to making a difference.”

With what was originally an advertising/print background, Dela Cruz
comes from having spent a year at Troublemaker Studios Digital, where
he served as 2D supervisor for “Grindhouse”. Prior to that he was a
Flame compositor at Match Frame (’99-’06), head of the interactive
department at Creative Link Studios (San Antonio, TX) and again at
Match Frame (‘95-’97), where he utilized DFX and Photoshop to support
editors.

“Having been at Match Frame San Antonio for eight years previously, I
feel I’m familiar with the company,” comments Dela Cruz. “I like
what Don (White, 1080 CEO) is doing with it. There’s a great family
attitude here. It’s a great place, with great people and great
machines to work on.”

Dela Cruz observes that the 1080 staff is more “technically savvy”
than that of companies who “claim they are the top. Don really cares
about the people he works with,” he says. “I always seem to land
back at Main Frame (1080). I’m really looking forward to this.”
