Rapidly approaching completion of a major facility renovation, West Village-based Mega Playground founder Eitan Hakami has named Terry Brown Chief Technology Officer for the leading production/post production complex.
A skilled technologist, Terry Brown helped pioneer technological breakthroughs in the 24P high definition format, postproduction workflows and High Definition Digital Laboratory services during his 21-year tenure with LA-based LaserPacific. In 2001 he shared credit for a Scientific and Technological Emmy™ awarded to the firm for its significant contributions to the creation of 24P High Definition technology. In 2005 he resigned his position as VP Engineering to return to the east coast taking a position with Technicolor as Sr. VP World Wide Technology, where he continued to pioneer new technology development for TV and Theatrical film post-production. When Technicolor required him to return full time to Los Angeles, he decided to resign and remain in the New York area.

“Systems, programs and formats can shift at warp speed today,” Eitan Hakami remarked. “Terry Brown’s innovative thinking has had an extraordinary impact on the science of digital imaging. His grasp of existing and emerging technologies have enabled him to help set the standards for Digital Intermediates, Dailies and projection systems worldwide. We expect his ability to connect disparate dots to play a vital role in advancing Mega Playground’s marketplace position.

“Terry has the ability to walk clients through complex procedures and clarify their options with an accessible and friendly approach that eliminates the intimidation factor, Hakami adds. “Having a CTO of his caliber available to advise our clients represents a unique advantage for Mega Playground.”

“Innovative directors like James Cameron and Michael Mann have provided me with challenging problem-solving opportunities,” Terry Brown said. “They are reinventing the way Hollywood makes movies and this requires post facilities to step outside the box and become extremely innovative. In keeping pace with these new innovations, post facilities are increasingly becoming more involved with the production side of projects. This is especially true with digital acquisition..

Despite my 25+ years in Hollywood, I’ve always considered myself an ‘east coast’ guy,” he adds. “The talent and creative ambitions of young NY directors and producers always make me think of this town as ‘Indiewood.’

“Mega Playground represents a terrific opportunity for me to align with a forward-thinking company committed to providing high level services to a top-flight client base.” Brown concludes. “This facility is spacious, well-designed, comfortable and technically advanced. We’ve got a terrific technical team and Eitan Hakami has an extraordinary game plane for future growth. I am very pleased to have a permanent home here.”
