Tributaries Cable Offers a Way to Distribute HDMI Signals Over CAT5E Cables

Whether it’s a small home HD project studio or a larger commercial facility, the practical problem of routing audio-visual cables throughout a building is always a challenge.
Tributaries Cable (Orlando, FL) offers a variety of video, audio, digital and speaker cables. But it also markets some new problem-solvers for HD installations.

One interesting new product is the HXC5 HDMI-over-CAT5E system. Designed to send an HDMI signal over distances up to 164 feet, the company said the HXC5’s signal is virtually loss-free. Compliant with HDMI v1.2 and HDCP, it uses balanced/unbalanced signal processing for all video formats up to and including 1080p.

A simple plug-and-play two-piece system, the HXC5, priced at $600, requires a double-run of standard CAT-5/-5E/-6 network cabling.

For longer HDMI cable runs without CAT5E, Tributaries offers the HX100 HDMI Restorer, which handles straight HDMI cable runs up to 165 feet. A little bigger than a bar of soap, the restorer automatically analyzes the incoming digital signal and applies adjustable equalization contouring that ensures optimum performance at the other end. Price is $299.

For more sophisticated installations, Tributaries has the SES 114TT four-channel system that delivers HD component video up to 1080p via a single CAT5E cable up to 500 feet with no quality loss. One transmitter, one receiver and power supply are priced at $599.

These new devices barely scratch the surface of the HD extenders, converters, switches and cables offered by Tributaries.
