ACE Members Tech Web Discussion: 2007 Equipment Survey Results

The American Cinema Editors recently posted their 2007 equipment survey results. Not surprisingly Final Cut Pro gained market share but Avid still holds the majority of the market. At least that’s the results of this survey of ACE union members. This would be a great survey to conduct out in the “real” world of editing and compare the results. By “real” world I mean non-ACE union members and other editors who are working and making a living editing projects other than feature films, reality and episodic television. It will also be interesting to see if Avid has gains in next year’s ACE Equipment Survey  after delivering updated software and hardware products at a lower price point. Early reports on the new Avid systems are very favorable but only time will tell if they gain back some of that market that Final Cut Pro has taken.

Also interesting was this paragraph in the survey:

One caveat: a number of the questions were poorly phrased, misunderstood, and thus the results need to be taken with some skepticism. Like all surveys, how the question is written is just as important as the answer, but some misunderstanding does not invalidate all the results.

Okay … so how seriously should one take this survey if they readily admit the questions were poorly phrased?
