The Plug-in Automates Audio and Video Track Synching in EDIUS' Famously Robust Multicam Editing Mode

PluralEyes, the automated synching plug-in from Singular Software that matches audio and video clips without the need for timecode or clappers, has just added another NLE host to its lineup. With versions for FCP, Media Composer, Premiere and Vegas, PluralEyes is a favorite of documentary, commercial and indie filmmakers using dual-system sound on their shoots. EDIUS, a 10-bit application that can now support up to 16 cameras in its multicam editing mode, was an obvious next candidate for PluralEyes compatibility. “We had an overwhelming response from the Grass Valley community,” said Singular Software CEO Bruce Sharpe in a prepared statement. The company is offering the new version at a reduced price of $119, $30 off the price of its other versions, through July 15.
The PluralEyes interface lets you place each video track from multiple cameras and individual audio tracks onto separate timelines. PluralEyes then analyzes the clips and synchs it with the audio and creates a new sequence. When you look at that new sequence on the timeline, you’ll see that the audio clips have been moved and now synch with your video. If the audio clips don’t end up exactly where you’d like them, you can check the “Try Really Hard” and “Level Audio” boxes prior to a second go-round for even better results.

Just one more nail in the old production clapper’s coffin.
