Companies will also showcase Film Master support for Spycer data manager, DVS-SAN, and Centaurus II video I/O in NAB demonstrations

At NAB 2007, Digital Vision, a leading developer of advanced digital media applications specialising in film and video, and DVS, a top hardware/software manufacturer, will showcase the results of a newly-formed collaboration. Visitors to both companies’ booths will see Digital Vision’s Nucoda Film Master DI system running on a DVS high-performance platform along with DVS Spycer ® data management software. The companies also announce that the DVS-SAN is Digital Vision’s preferred SAN for 2k/4k applications, and that Digital Vision will OEM the Centaurus II uncompressed video I/O hardware for the Film Master system.
Film Master and DVO qualified for DVS’ powerful hardware platform
The foundation of the companies’ collaboration is the qualification of DVS’ high-performance workstation for Digital Vision’s Film Master DI colour grading system for feature films, commercials, long-form television, and restoration applications. With DVS powering Film Master, customers will benefit from the ultra high-performance of custom hardware on an open and flexible platform, fully integrated with the award winning Digital Vision Optics (DVO) image enhancement technology for superior grain management, aperture correction, mastering and automatic picture restoration. Digital Vision continues to support existing X5, X9, and X17 platforms, and now offers even more performance options for using DVS infrastructure.

Film Master on DVS-SAN for 2k/4k Digital Intermediate work
Digital Vision has also qualified Film Master for the DVS-SAN as its preferred shared-storage solution for 2K and 4K applications. Specifically designed for uncompressed video and digital film, the DVS-SAN is optimized for use with CLIPSTER ® and Spycer ®, DVS’ innovative content management system, and meets the demands of digital intermediate work requiring ultrahigh data rates and fast access times. The system is upward-scaleable to hundreds of terabytes and so offers enough storage capacity for several film projects.

Integrated Spycer content management
To expand customers’ ability to manage data in digital intermediate workflows, Film Master will now support Spycer ®, DVS’ innovative content management software, when running on the sophisticated DVS platform or Digital Vision’s X5/X9/X17 workstations connected via a DVS-SAN. With this application users can easily search, show, and edit filenames and metadata of clips. DVS’ intelligent copy and defragmentation tools manage the data to optimize high performance.

Digital Vision has implemented support for and will OEM Centaurus II
In addition to the integration of the high-performance workstation and Spycer, Digital Vision has also qualified the DVS Centaurus II uncompressed video I/O hardware for Film Master systems. Film Master users will be able to monitor and output directly from the timeline to HD-SDI through a 3D colour calibration. This is available simultaneously with a separate GPU 3D cube through the DVI output allowing for multiple display devices to be perfectly matched when viewed in the same environment.

Simon Cuff, Digital Vision’s President and Chief Operating Officer, said, “DVS has a stellar reputation for providing Digital Intermediate platforms and infrastructure that are incredibly reliable and high performance. They have embraced file based workflows to the same level as Digital Vision which benefits the end user immensely. Spycer’s unique data management capability for 2k and 4k work combined with the performance of their SAN eliminates many of the bottlenecks in DI. Their strengths are perfectly complementary to ours and we’re looking forward to tighter integration of our product lines that will benefit both customer bases.”

Hans-Ulrich Weidenbruch, Managing Director at DVS, said, “We are proud to be partnering with Digital Vision and their excellent products. It is a pleasure that Digital Vision certifies our DVS-SAN to be their central storage of choice. We clearly think that the power and efficiency of DVS technology combined with the image processing from Digital Vision will deliver superb results for all DI projects. The DVS and Digital Vision products not only improve workflows, but validate an open and standards based approach, bringing out the best qualities of each product for the customers.”
