Digital Intermediate (DI) Colorist Michael Eaves, whose credits include such films as NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM, OCEAN’S TWELVE and ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, has joined Encore Hollywood. Eaves, who arrives from EFilm, has been a DI Colorist since 2002 and is among the most experienced and respected artists in the field.
“We are delighted to welcome Michael to our team,” said Encore Hollywood’s Managing Director, Barbara Marshall, in making the announcement. “Michael is a very talented artist and one who has earned the trust of some of the best directors and cinematographers in Hollywood.”

Eaves’ arrival is part of Encore Hollywood’s ongoing effort to grow its Digital Intermediate services. The facility launched its DI service last year and has built a DI pipeline that is unique in the industry, extending from dailies through final delivery and directly linked to its visual effects and feature film marketing departments. Encore Hollywood has recently provided DI services for such films as PRIMEVAL, PATHFINDER and DAY WATCH.

Eaves spent four years at EFilm and served as DI Colorist on more than three dozen films. Among them were A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE, working with Director David Cronenberg and Cinematographer Peter Suschitzky, THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, working with Director Roland Emmerich and Cinematographer Ueli Steiger, and ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, working with Director Michel Gondry and Cinematographer Ellen Kuras. His last complete project was NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM, with Director Shawn Levy and Cinematographer Guillermo Navarro.

Eaves began his career with Planet Blue and became a Colorist during a nine-year stint with Post Logic. His work there included commercials, music videos, episodic television and features. His first experience with DI came in 2002 when Cinematographer Steven B. Poster recommended him to Sony Pictures Imageworks to work on STUART LITTLE 2.

In discussing his move to Encore Hollywood, Eaves said that he was impressed with the facility’s resources and with its unique, all-encompassing approach to DI. “Encore did some great DI work last year and they have very interesting plans for the future,” Eaves said. “I want to be a part of their success.”

Eaves said that it takes a great eye and excellent aesthetic sensibilities to succeed in DI, but interpersonal skills are also vital. “I greatly value the relationships that I have developed with directors, DPs and post supervisors,” he said. “Understanding the needs, tastes and styles of your clients is just as important as being good at what you do.”
