The Hollywood Post Alliance has announced that the Second Annual HPA Awards will be presented November 1, 2007 during a gala evening event at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, California. The HPA Awards, launched in 2006, acknowledge creative and technical excellence in the art, science and craft of post production. In announcing the Awards, HPA President Leon Silverman noted: “The response to the 2006 premiere of the HPA Awards was overwhelming and demonstrated the need to celebrate the important creative contributions of the post production community. For too long our work has been hidden in those darkened rooms of post. The HPA Awards were designed to help illuminate, honor and raise awareness of the significant role we play in the creative process.”
The HPA Awards were launched last year to highlight the contributions of the talented men and women of the post production industry, the ones who are a pivotal part of the “magic of Hollywood.” Last year’s winners included the compositing team from “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” Stuart Bass, editor of “Arrested Development,” and spots for Jaguar, “Gorgeous,” and “XK Launch” as well as others. Engineering Awards went to Digital Vision, MTI and Sony; Emory Cohen received an Outstanding Contribution to Post Production award.

The 2007 HPA Awards will recognize excellence in categories including color grading, editing, audio post production and compositing. Again, the HPA will bestow special awards; the award recognizing the Outstanding Contribution to Advancing the Field of Post Production and the much-anticipated Engineering Excellence Award. The Call For Entries will be announced shortly. Awards will be judged and voted upon by a jury of peers in each category. A call for judges will go out in summer for fall judging sessions. Nominees will be announced in October, 2007. For information about the HPA Awards, visit www.hpaawards.net or call 213.614.0860.
