Ascent Media Group has appointed Paul Stambaugh as Managing Director of Cinetech and Vice President of Global Restoration Services. He will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Valencia, Calif. film laboratory and will have oversight of the company’s global restoration services. He will report to Richard Andrews, Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer for Content Management Services.
Stambaugh brings more than four decades of experience in managing film laboratories and most recently served as Managing Director of Technicolor’s film laboratory in Bangkok, Thailand.

“Paul is an imaginative leader and is extremely knowledgeable about the state of the international film industry” said Ascent Media Creative Services President, Bob Solomon. “Most importantly, he shares our customers’ passion about film and film restoration. We look to benefit from his unique skills as we bring our photochemical and digital restoration expertise to our global facilities.”

Calling him a “perfect fit,” Andrews said that Stambaugh’s focus will be to optimize restoration workflows, utilizing both photochemical and digital tools, to provide an array of options for content owners as they seek to archive, and ultimately monetize, their assets. He will also seek to grow Cinetech’s core laboratory services supporting Ascent’s filmed entertainment clients. “Paul understands film and is absolutely customer focused,” Andrews stated. “He is a phenomenal talent.”

For his part, Stambaugh described his new role as an ideal position to apply his experience and interest in film restoration. “Restoration and preservation are an important part of our industry as producers and studios seek to protect their valuable assets; we are ready to meet that challenge,” he said. “I also see great opportunity to develop the market for restoration services among corporations, academic and cultural institutions, and other organizations that own large collections of film and photo content.”

Stambaugh added that he is impressed by the service-oriented approach of AMG’s companies. “While our companies have powerful resources and global experience, they deliver them in a boutique atmosphere,” he said. “The level of client services they provide is very special.”

Stambaugh became managing director of Technicolor, Thailand, in 2004 and helped build it into one of the largest film laboratories in Southeast Asia. He previously served as Vice President of the Technicolor/CFI Film Preservation and Imaging Group, based in Hollywood.
Stambaugh has worked in film laboratories for his enti

re career and started out as a “can boy” at Pathà© Film Laboratories. He went on to found United Color Lab and Images on Video, both in Hollywood.
