Savant Film has signed director Nelson Cabrera, formerly with HKM, for exclusive US spot representation. Cabrera's first assignment with the company is a project for GEICO via The Martin Agency/VA.
In only his third year as a spot helmer, Cabrera is already extremely prolific, garnering numerous industry honors for his work. Showbound Naturals "Ping Pong" via, Grey Worldwide/NY, won a Silver Lion at Cannes, a Bronze at the New York Film Festival, a Suncoast Emmy Award, and a Mobius Award; his Mini-Cooper spots via Crispin Porter + Bogusky earned him an ANDY, two Silver International Automotive Advertising Awards and was named a finalist at the London International Film Festival; Ford "True Love" via JWT was counted among Adweek's Best Spots of 2005.

Cabrera was honored at the 2004 Clios Awards by SHOOT as one of the up and coming directors to watch internationally, and was shortlisted at Cannes by CFP-F/shots for the Young Directors Award.

"I'm very proud of the work I did at HKM," said Cabrera, whose recent projects for Mercedes, Ford, Craftsman, and Reina Beer. "At the same time, a director, even this early in a career, needs to evolve, and I can do that best with Savant Film."

"Nelson brings a great sensibility and passion to his work," said Joby Barnhart, who is partnered in Savant with fellow Executive Producer Jamie Miller. "He is a fantastic complement to our roster."

In addition to his spot work, Cabrera is a professional photographer. He is currently at work on Buckaroo, a photographic essay on the American Cowboy to be published in 2008.

"Nelson's accomplishments tell you a lot about who he is as a person," noted Miller. "He is talented and driven. We should add that he's quite likeable, too."
