A happy RED camera customer has posted a very well designed pdf file via a forum thread at reduser.net that details their workflow from pre-production all the way through post for one of their RED shoots. If you’re totally in the dark about this whole RED workflow (and let’s be honest, who isn’t somewhat confused about some part of the process when it comes to shooting, posting and finishing RED) then this paper is a good place to start. Now, one great thing about RED and the post workflow is that you really have a lot of options. But one bad thing about RED and the post workflow is that you really have a lot of options. This particular job chose to use a Apple ProRes workflow all the way through finishing and that certainly is one option, one of the easiest and probably the most widely used that this point in the life of RED though it might not be the absolute most pristine image quality if that is what you are going for since ProRes is a compressed codec. Though ProRes does look great, especially for the bandwidth requirements, there are uncompressed options as well. Thanks to Chandra Kilaru for creating and sharing this document (this is a pdf link) as any new RED information is good RED information!
