Mark Mangini, Richard L. Anderson, George Simpson, and Howell Gibbens Join Soundelux

In a significant addition to its pool of feature film sound artists, CSS Studios has brought four veteran Supervising Sound Editors to its Soundelux facility in Hollywood. The new arrivals include Mark Mangini, Richard L. Anderson, George Simpson and Howell Gibbens-whose collective credits include such films as The Spiderwick Chronicles, Training Day, Blades of Glory and Jurassic Park III.

The addition of these four Supervising Sound Editors enhances CSS Studios’ position as the leading provider of creative sound services. “Mark, Richard, George and Howell share our enthusiasm and vision for working within a company environment with a strong and singular focus on sound services,” said CSS Studios President Robert C. Rosenthal. “We deeply respect their body of work and their creative voices.”

The four artists, who often collaborate on film projects, made the decision to join CSS Studios – attracted by the company’s focus on sound, breadth of sound resources, and talent base. “We want to work in an environment where we are surrounded by other talent whom we respect,” said Mangini. “We have competed with CSS Studios’ talent in the past, but we have always admired the integrity of their work.”

“CSS Studios understands the work that we do, and provides tremendous support for sound artists,” Simpson added. “Their people have the same mindset that we do.”

Gibbens and Anderson are currently supervising sound editorial for Universal Pictures’ The Wolf Man, directed by Joe Johnston. It is Gibbens’ fourth film with the director. Mangini recently completed work on CHE for director Steven Soderbergh. Simpson’s most recent project was Imagine That, the soon-to-be-released Eddie Murphy comedy, directed by Karey Kirkpatrick.

Mangini and Anderson were among the founders of Weddington Productions which became Technicolor Sound Services after its purchase by Technicolor in 2003. Mangini has worked in film sound for more than three decades. Among his many credits as a Sound Supervisor are Die Hard 3, Star Trek IV, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Fifth Element, The Green Mile and as a Re-Recording Mixer on Kafka, D-War, American Teen , and CHE. He is a three-time Academy Award nominee and has won four Golden Reel Awards.

Anderson has been a Supervising Sound Editor since 1976 with credits on such films as Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Raiders of the Lost Ark (for which he received an Academy Award ®), and, more recently, Madagascar, She’s the Man and Shrek the Third. He, too, has three Oscar nominations, most recently for Daylight. He received a Career Achievement Award from the Motion Picture Sound Editors at the Golden Reel Awards in 2007.

Simpson began his career as a picture editor in the trailer department at Universal Pictures. He made the transition to sound editing through Weddington Productions. He worked for some time at Soundelux before returning to Weddington in 1990. His notable credits include Hardball, Training Day, Tears of the Sun, The Ring Two, Shooter and The Mist.

Gibbens has worked in sound since 1986 and earned his first credit as Supervising Sound Editor on the 1992 film Glengarry Glen Ross. His credits since then include Six Days Seven Nights, Girl, Interrupted, Jurassic Park III and Hidalgo.
