New green-screen tool supports Apple's Final Cut Pro and Motion

Red Giant Software has released Primatte Keyer 4, a new version of its professional green-screen tool that adds support for Apple’s Final Cut Pro and Motion pro video applications.
Primatte Keyer promises to create an “almost perfect key” with one mouse click. Keying challenges such as uneven lighting, compression artifacts, subtle shadows and edge light contamination have also been overcome, according to the company.

Working from the timeline, Primatte uses auto setup to analyze the background color and create the key automatically. The software application also works with After Effects and Avid, with the version 4 improving the power and speed of each application.

When using Final Cut Pro and Motion, users can create mattes on the timeline without leaving their editing application. Light wrapping and color-match features ensure keys that look like they’ve always belonged on the background of choice, the company said.

In addition, Primatte Keyer 4 extracts objects such as water, smoke, and air. It smoothes chroma edges with de-artifacting input correction for all formats, including DV and HDV. Alpha channel adjustment is integrated into the keyer.

The software has secondary spill removal, accurate color matching and light wrap built into the keying interface. It supports 32-bit processing with After Effects and Final Cut Pro and 16-bit processing with Avid and Premiere Pro.

Primatte Keyer 4 is now available for Macintosh and Windows PCs for $499. Upgrades are available from any previous version for $199.
