Recent Project
Cut + Run/NY officially kicked off its new Sound and Mixing division with a short film by award-winning preeminent director Wim Wenders. The new Nokia-sponsored film features David Bowie as a guide to innovative and compelling music stores around the globe, and features sound design and mix by Cut + Run’s centerpiece talent Jun Mizumachi.

Leading independent music stores from around the world ‘ including Fat Beats (New York), Reckless (Chicago), Modern Sound (Rio) Hard Wax (Berlin) and Mona Records (Tokyo) – will offer a personalized selection of new music in conjunction with Nokia. The promotional documentary film weaves short interviews from each influential store with Bowie’s insights and enthusiastic commentary on the exploration and discovery of new music.

“The idea of working with Wim Wenders was daunting because he is such a legend,” says Mizumachi. “But is turned out to be a wonderful experience and an opportunity of a lifetime. Our shared passion for music ‘ which is at the heart of this project ‘ informed the process and made for a great collaboration.”

Jun Mizumachi’s Cannes and Clio award-winning sound design is heard by millions all over the world on major ad campaigns such brands as Nike, Pepsi, IBM, Budweiser, Miller Lite, GMC, Saab, AT&T and Cingular. He also works with major networks and cable stations including CBS News, CBS Sports, PBS/WNET, HBO, MTV/NICK, Fox, MSG, and Food Network creating audio identities for station logos and IDs.

Mizumachi has also collaborated with feature film directors including Martin Scorsese and the Coen Brothers.

With an eye to diversification, Jun expanded his sound design repertoire to include the video game industry and received the British Video Game Award for “Best Sound and Music” in 2005. In 2005 he also completed a major sound installation for the new history wing at the Singapore Museum.

“Jun and I had worked together years ago and I think it was a mutual goal to somehow get back together,” explains Cut + Run/NY Co-Founder Chuck Willis. “When Susan and I first built Cut + Run everyone asked what the empty room was for and we always replied, ‘That’s where Jun is going.’ He hung in there for a year while we got his studio together and here we are. Great editorial needs great sound, music and mixing.”
