89 Edit is pleased to welcome award-winning Editor Stuart Waks to their Santa Monica creative editorial shop. Waks has earned many of the industry's top honors, including a Gold Lion, multiple Clios, and an induction into the Advertising Hall of Fame. In addition to spot work, Stuart has edited several feature films including Ali, Any Given Sunday and Days of Thunder. His impressive resume reflects spotwork for top brands such as Nissan, Sony Playstation II, Budweiser, Lexus, Heineken, Powerade, Ford, Samsung, American Airlines, Saab, Rolex, Wells Fargo, Chevrolet, Citroen, Reebok and the iconic Chanel No. 5 directed by Ridley Scott. Waks' latest editorial effort is for Sony PS3 Killzone 2 out of Deutsch/LA.

The addition of Waks is just the latest in a string of strategic moves that have extended both 89’s size and scope. West Coast Executive Producer Gail Butler comments, “These past few months have been very challenging for our industry, but we’ve stayed true to our goal of increasing our roster of creative editorial talent and meeting, then exceeding our clients’ needs with our in-house finishing services. Bringing Stuart to 89 further solidifies our goals. He’s an amazing editor, collaborator and just a wonderful person. We’re very excited to get started on his next project!”

Waks comments on working with 89, “I came away from my first meeting with Gail feeling like she appreciated editors and would look out for you, your clients and career. Not because it was her job but because it was her nature. I was also attracted to 89 as I will edit out of both the Santa Monica and New York shops and be represented in all markets across the country.”

Stuart has collaborated with many of the industry’s top directors including the aforementioned Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Luke Scott, Oliver Stone, Michael Mann, Rocky Morton, Peggy Sirota, Iain MacKenzie, Jan De Bont, Samuel Bayer and many others.

A graduate of Hofstra University with a bachelor of arts, Waks also attended the School of Architecture at the City College of New York and completed a film editing course at the School of Visual Arts. In addition to editing, one of Stuart’s hobbies is to build functional sculpture/furniture out of reclaimed construction lumber.

Stuart Waks is represented on the west coast by Doug Sherin & Kimberley Griswold of OPTioNS, Janice Harryman in the mid-west and Samantha Tuttlebee on the East Coast.
