HD spots are still rare animals – uncommon enough that Bausch & Lomb decided to make an HD finish a selling point for contact lenses. "See your world in High Definition" is the tag line for a safari-themed spot that seems to be shot through a crystal-clear contact lens. The lens itself was built by VFX house Guava as a 3D element, with optical properties including refraction, highlight detail and reflections, and functions as a transition between shots. Guava also did some blue-screen work with a featured lion and rotoscoped the various animals seen into the shot. Its two sister companies got into the act- Lenny Mastrandrea at Nice Shoes did the color-correct, and Freestyle Collective designed the graphics. The spot was finished in HD for TV and possible cinema release.
Safari was directed by Alain Gourrier at Tate USA for agency Gotham and edited by Jonathan Edwards at Red Car.
