Universal mattebox works with video cameras, 35mm lens adapters, and film cameras

Redrock Microsystems is now taking reservations for its microMattebox and microRemote production systems. Maker of the popular M2 cinema lens adapter that allows 35mm motion picture lenses to be used on HDV cameras, Redrock said the microMattebox is the first affordable cinema-grade matte box made with independent feature budgets in mind. This universal mattebox works with a variety of video cameras, 35mm lens adapters, and film cameras. It’s also compatible with the Red One camera.
Redrock said the microMattebox helps manage light and flare. It uses a swing-away design that provides easy access to lenses for changes and cleaning. It also works with industry-standard support and filter sizes.

The Redrock microRemote is a remote follow-focus unit that enables precise control of lenses, especially those that are difficult to reach-typically on a jib/crane, or on a Steadicam. It consists of three components: a wireless transmitter providing the handheld controls, the base station, which acts as a receiver and controller, and the drive motors that connect to and move the lens rings. Up to three separate drive motors can be controlled by the base station for advanced control of iris, zoom, and focus.

The user can plug in up to three separate drive motors into a single base station to control focus, iris, and zoom. There are programmable in/out points and QuickCalibrate lens calibration, a feature that prevents damaging lens and gears.
