Features Will Be Added to BMCC and Pocket Camera 'Over the Coming Weeks'

Blackmagic Design is making good on its promise to provide more frequent firmware upgrades with today's announcement of v1.9 of its camera software, which adds a new, long-awaited "heads-up display" (HUD) to the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K.

Users of the 4K camera will now have access to on-screen audio meters, a histogram, and a remaining recording time indicator. The HUD is revealed by swiping up from the bottom of the screen and dismissed by swiping down or, with a manual lens mounted, the iris button can be used to toggle the display on or off.

The upgrade also improves the 4K camera's sensor calibration, with anecdotal reports on the Blackmagic cinematography forum indicating an improvement in fixed-pattern noise on some cameras.

The company said the new HUD will be added to the Blackmagic Cinema Camera and Pocket Cinema Camera in a future update "over the coming weeks."

The upgrade is available via free download at the Blackmagic Design Support Center.
