25-City Tour Includes Hands-On Lighting and Shooting Workshops

Celebrated cinematographer Shane Hurlbut, a tireless mentor to developing filmmakers on his Hurlblog and at live events, will launch a 25-city Illumination Experience educational tour on September 14. The predominantly U.S. tour (with a stop in Vancouver, B.C.) starts in Irvine, California, and ends in Los Angeles on November 15 and 16.

Culling best practices and techniques he's used to shoot films like Terminator Salvation, Need for Speed, We Are Marshall and Act of Valor, the first HDSLR full-length feature released by a major studio, Hurlbut will present two days of hands-on workshop classes that show attendees how to deliver, in his words, "fantastic cinematic impact," even on a budget.

His Illumination Workshop will detail the finer points of using key, back and fill light to enhance character, mood and emotional impact during a full-day session that includes a trademark three-step process Hurlbut has developed on feature films. The Experience Masterclass puts that into practice as he guides filmmakers through their own shoots, showing them how he lights scenes in a variety of contexts.

Hurlbut is also offering a stand-alone workshop HD download for $449.
