A new partnership between Nimble Collective and Toon Boom Animation will bring Toon Boom’s Harmony and Storyboard Pro animation software to Nimble’s cloud-based animation production platform.
Jointly announced at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival last week, the deal coincides with a coming increase in demand for animation content that the companies say they anticipate coming from existing and emerging video on demand platforms worldwide.
“The world is full of people who are often underrepresented in mainstream entertainment who are eager to see the stories of their cultures reflected on screen, and animation is a universally popular and powerful medium for storytelling,” said Nimble Collective co-founder and CEO Rex Grignon in a prepared statement. “Animation is becoming accessible to all thanks to the availability of paperless, digital solutions like Toon Boom Animation software, which can be downloaded anywhere and produce high-quality work on-time and on-budget with minimal training.”
Founded in 2014, Nimble Collective provides a secure cloud-based environment for collaborating on animation products. Software is “streamed” via a browser interface rather than requiring download and installation, making it faster and easier to set up individual workstations, and the cloud-based infrastructure can save studios money on overhead costs compared to buying or leasing their own hardware.
