We are all excited about video camera that promise four thousand pixel resolution. But how many do we really need???

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers did a study many years ago to determine how much resolution reached the final, projected film is a standard motion picture theatre. Due to multigenerational resolution losses and the losses due to film weave, it was measured that around 1000 lines of resolution could be seen on the screen.

Today, with digital intermediate processing, we can omit several stages of film dupes and get closer to the original. In face with digital projection, we CAN project an exact copy of the original camera footage.

But how much is enough?

Continued tomorrow.
