Good news for handheld DV camera owners thinking about going tapeless: Focus Enhancements plans to deliver its FS-4 digital disk recorder this month. Designed for Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Canon and other cameras, the FS-4 comes in consumer and pro versions. No conversion is necessary prior to editing as the operator can specify what NLE file format to record in. Both versions support Matrox AVI, Canopus AVI and QuickTime in addition to raw DV, AVI type 1 and AVI type 2. The proversion stretches to accommodate Avid OMF and Pinnacle AVI formats. A three-hour 40 GB consumer version sells for $799, the three-hour pro version for $1195 and a six-hour 80 GB model for $1695.
