Inspector HD, a New 1080i Zoom Camera From Remote Ocean Systems, Is On the Scene

Remote Ocean Systems (ROS), a maker of oceanographic cameras, lighting and support gear, has introduced Inspector HD, a new 1080i underwater zoom video camera.
The camera has a 1/2.9-inch (6.3mm) ClearVid CMOS sensor with a minimum illumination of two lux. A 10:1 optical zoom lens (2x digital) with tele-macro capabilities and autofocus allows for “flawless viewing” without additional focal adjustment, the company said. The camera, which has optical image stabilization, also provides real-time 6.08-megapixel still-image capability.

This camera, powered by 12 to 24 volts DC, is integrated with circuitry and protocol that allows the user to remotely control or set virtually all aspects of the options, communicate with the camera’s controls via RS-485 or RS-232, and directly save and/or transfer the still images while the camera is submerged and in operation.

Depth-rated to 4,000 meters (13,000 feet), the Inspector HD is housed in 6AL4V titanium and measures 8.8 inches in length (without connector) and 3.5 inches wide in the main body. Air weight is 6.2 pounds. The camera is designed to be mounted to a fixed surface or as an integral part of a lighting and positioning system.

This camera, switchable between 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios, complements ROS’s LED underwater SmartLIGHT and PT-10 electric pan/tilt unit and RS-485 computer controlled positioner. Together the components constitute a turnkey underwater high-definition system.
