Vision Research Offers a Second-Gen Upgrade to the Phantom HD

Vision Research, makers of the popular Phantom series of high-speed digital cameras, have upgraded the Phantom HD model to the Phantom HD gold, maintaining the range of shooting speeds – variable down to 1 fps – and formats from its predecessor, but making specific advances in the camera's build and imaging technology.
The Phantom HD Gold has a new internal cooling system that the company says eliminates all temperature-induced artifacts, as well as new hardware components that are said to improve noise levels and dynamic range, including a new optical low-pass filter and upgrades to the on-camera controls. The new firmware makes use of a new video encoder as well as new enhancements to the interface for recording to CineMag flash memory cartridges (256 or 512 GB). The HD Gold is available with up to 32 GB of internal memory.

The Phantom HD gold shoots 1080p video at up to 1000 fps, and 720p video at up to 1500 fps. In its highest-resolution mode, 2048×2048, it can reach 555 frames per second.
