Press Release

Homestead Editorial is pleased to announce the addition of John Young to its roster. Young, who brings experience in cutting commercials, features and documentaries, rounds out the team, which includes Lisa Barnable, Charly Bender, Abbie Bowman Carson, Greg Dougherty, Skip Duff, Chris Hellman, Mark Nickelsburg, and Sam Welch.
"John is one of those editors that is always ahead of the curve both technically and creatively," remarks Lance Doty, Partner/Executive Producer of Homestead Editorial. "His technical knowledge affords him the ability to apply simple and practical techniques to enhance the overall outcome of any given project. Creatively, his style is unassuming and completely believable. Those assets combined with his years of experience make for a very strong and reliable commercial editor."
"I've known the Homestead guys for a long time," comments Young. "I wanted to work with people that I'm comfortable with and doing the kind of work I wanted to do. For me, it is more important to be able to do projects from beginning to end and I felt that Homestead offered a diversity of opportunities from commercials to features and independent films. It's good to be at a place where you can package the whole deal – working in different mediums. I like the sensibility here."
John Young was born in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in the Deep South so naturally he lives and works in New York City. His editing career had humble beginnings. After graduating from the University of Georgia, Athens with a degree in Comparative Literature, Young moved to New York to study the production and business of film. While a grad student at NYU's Cinema Studies program, he worked at Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners in a freelance IT position. This eventually became a full-time endeavor and a friend at the agency, who was an in-house editor, encouraged Young to get into editing since it fit his diverse interests in film and music.
Beginning with an assistantship at Crew Cuts under Chris Hellman in 1996, he contributed to commercials for Audi, Visa and Jaguar, as well as Super Bowl material for Pepsi and Nike. Young went on to edit at Isis Post and then Consulate, working on national TV spots for ESPN Sportscenter, Verizon Wireless, Reese's, Captain Morgan's and Chevrolet, among others, working with directors such as Errol Morris, Nico Beyer, Tim Godsall and Clay Williams.
In addition to short-form work, he has cut "Meow on TV," a branded show sponsored by Meow Mix, which aired on Oxygen. Young also worked on a comedic feature, "Fortunes," directed by Parker Cross and starring Mike McGlone, James Urbaniak and Tony Hale ("Arrested Development"). Most recently, he cut a documentary for Amy Nicholson entitled "Muskrat Lovely," which is a story of a muskrat skinning contest and a beauty pageant all tied into one.
