San Francisco-based Mekanism recently added directors Dave and Rory to its growing roster to create, develop, and shoot the firm's live action and integrated campaigns. The duo, who met as creatives at Mother, NY are already residing in Mekanism's new Manhattan digs. The pair bring a wide range of expertise across concept development, writing, art direction, direction, and design. After several years of award-winning agency creative experience working on campaigns for brands such as Miller, Dell, NBA, Target, J&J, Lincoln, and Puma, they moved on to launch their own indy production shop. Drawn by a pursuit of more involvement in shooting and storytelling, they collaboratively shot projects for clients such as Qualcomm, MTV, Rembrandt, and tbs, prior to joining Mekanism's team in 2008.
Elaborating on their choice to unite with Mekanism, Dave and Rory explain, “Their collaborative environment and progressive production company model presented us with an opportunity we just couldn’t pass up. They really give us the freedom to come up with ideas and see them through to the end. The entire team contributes to every project and it creates an inspired, supportive atmosphere for us to explore boundaries and deliver really fresh, compelling work.” Infusing their unique mixture of comedy and storytelling talent, Dave and Rory (or Rory and Dave depending on the day) work together to develop engaging, integrated entertainment.

Mekanism Founder Tommy Means first noticed the pair’s style with HandSolo, their project for wireless telecommunications company Qualcomm, admiring the piece’s aesthetic appeal, humor, and overall artistic flow. Means also adds, “Dave and Rory have that easy genius at concepting big, comedic, integrated ideas and flawlessly executing those ideas across any platform. They are the model of the next generation director that Mekanism offers to agencies.” Wasting no time in making their mark, Dave and Rory are already directing a major non-linear branded entertainment show for Microsoft, slated to launch mid-August, as well as another upcoming series of comedic shorts for eBay. These projects will be the latest in Mekanism’s long line of recent and award-winning live action and integrated projects for brands such as Nike, EA, Microsoft, RockBand, MTV, AXE, Toyota, Frito-Lay and Pepsi.

About Dave and Rory
Dave and Rory are Mekanism’s newest directorial team based in New York. They write, art direct, design, direct, and collaborate. They met while working at Mother in 2005 and have been collectively creating entertaining advertising content ever since. Plaudits for their work include One Show Gold, Silver, and Cannes Gold for the tbs Dept. of Humor Analysis in 2005. Since leaving Mother, Rory and Dave have been creating campaigns and directing for clients such as Puma, Garnier Fructis, Planet Green, Weleda, J&J, The College Board, Sundance Channel, and a top-secret candidate for President who never actually ran. Recently, they invented the Hand-Solo ® for Qualcomm, a telecommunications device implanted into the thumb and pinky finger, thus rendering the cell phone, as we know it, obsolete. Dave and Rory are also developing some funny on-line shows, intent on amusing the global, office-based, pc-equipped workforce.

After studying design at Saint Martin’s School of Design in London, Rory worked for Paul Smith, before moving to the US for NYU Graduate Film School. Dave studied journalism, becoming one of the first creatives at Mother’s U.S. outpost, where he met Rory. Collectively they’ve produced integrated campaigns for clients including Target, Dell, Miller, Johnson & Johnson, Qualcomm, and MTV. Rory is Irish and Dave is Missourian.
