Watch video from the show floor with Digital Cinema Society's James Mathers

Couldn't make it to NAB this year? You're not alone. Show organizers say attendance is up by 5 percent this year over last, but constricted budgets, barely easing in the first half of 2011, have kept many away. Even if you did make it to the show but need a top-level summary of key production-related product news and workflows, check out our show-floor video reports from Digital Cinema Society's James Mathers.
James gives us a good look at Panasonic’s new P2 3D camcorder:

…gets the inside scoop on the RED EPIC from Ted Schilowitz:

…finds out more about CS5.5 with Adobe’s Mark Randall:

…and gets Nick Rashby to open up about AJA’s prototype Thunderbolt-enabled portable I/O device for MacBook Pros:

There’s also an interview with Steadicam’s founder, Garrett Brown:

Many more Thunderbolt-enabled devices are headed our way. Created by Intel and developed for our market with collaboration from Apple, Thunderbolt is essentially a high-speed data highway that lets a single cable handle I/O at 10 gigabits per second as well as HD display. This week, Blackmagic Design unveiled its Thunderbolt-enabled UltraStudio3D and Matrox showed off its latest MXO2 boxes with the technology; both companies expect to begin shipments in July.

For a Thunderbolt backgrounder and why you’ll be hearing a lot more about it in the months to come, read Bryant Frazer’s excellent summary and review of the technology here.
