AVCHD Editing Software Finally Arrives

Post your comments below

It was a long time coming, but Corel has announced Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus — billed as the “industry’s first” AVCHD editing software.

Designed for consumer use on Windows PCs, VideoStudio 11 Plus can capture video from the new crop of AVCHD camcorders (both hard drive and disc-based) and allows real-time editing without quality loss. Finished projects or folders can be burned to HD DVD-R/RW or standard DVD discs.

The software offers enhanced DV-to-DVD Wizard and Movie Wizard features; title/subtitle and overlay tools; and a variety of quick-fix solutions for common video problems—like automatic color/tone correction. It is certified to work with Windows Vista and can produce video, slideshows, and DVDs with Dolby Digital sound.

VideoStudio 11 also offers an MPEG Optimizer that helps users select the best MPEG settings for rendering video when combining clips in multiple formats. It analyzes the bit rate of all clips on the timeline and then suggests encoding settings for the best quality and speed.

Users can also safely pause rendering when they need to do something that requires more PC resources. Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator Technology converts two-channel stereo sound to Dolby Digital 5.1.

Corel said VideoStudio 11 supports all popular formats, including standard and HD video, images, and audio. Video can be captured from virtually any source, including DV, HDV and AVCHD camcorders, hard-drive camcorders (MOD file format), USB camcorder devices, mobile phones, set-top DVD recorders, digital and analog TV tuners, VCRs and webcams.

Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus is priced at $129.99. For more information, visit www.ulead.com.

I've just purchased the Pinnacle 11 Ultimate. It is correct - it will edit in native AVCHD format, the buring however, is HD DVD. Any conversion causes a substantial loss of quality. Why not burn DVD in the same AVCHD format ? I do my AVCHD files with a very primitive Panasonic software, and the final quality of the footage is excellent ( no transitions available )

bought and downloaded latest ulead video studio 11.0 and it did NOT import AVCHD files (*.M2TS), it is NOT capable to burn AVCHD/Blue ray disk, it is not capable for "native" AVCHD vide editing as far as I see. It only has very ugly way("import dvd") to convert AVCHD folder to mpeg-2 for editing. Support suck as well, nobody from ulead was able to resolve this problems. Looks like false advertising

I agree with comment-2, I can\'t get it to download from a Panasonic HDC-HS9 at all. Panasonic SW is very limited.

Postings 2 and 3 are right on. Ulead DOES NOT do what it says it does, at least with the Panasonic HDC-HS9. It crashing immediately upon beginning the most basic editing. Stay away if you\'re working with AVCHD.
