Harris Corporation today announced
it will debut the DL-860 high-definition (HD) and standard-definition (SD)
serial digital legalizer in Harris booth #SU2929 at the National Association
of Broadcasters (NAB) convention being held April 24-27 in Las Vegas. The
DL-860 serial digital legalizer is a powerful new tool that eliminates the
guesswork of legalizing HD and SD signals.
Broadcast and production professionals use video legalizers to conform the
incoming video signal to industry-defined "legal" limited ranges. This is
particularly important when converting video between formats (such as HD and
SD) that have differently defined "color spaces," and when applying signal
processing to modify the video, which could push it beyond "legal" limits.
"With the decreasing costs of HD-capable products to the consumer and the
ever-present need for SD in today's broadcast and post-production
environments, we wanted to provide the best of both worlds," said Tim
Thorsteinson, president for Harris Broadcast Communications Division's
Leitch Business Unit. "The new DL-860 eliminates the added cost of buying
two separate pieces of equipment, providing broadcasters and producers with
an efficient and cost-effective solution for legalizing signals during the
transition to HD."
The DL-860 serial digital legalizer expands upon the features of the
multiple-award-winning DL-850HD serial digital legalizer, providing support
for standard-definition as well as high-definition input signals. The
DL-860 accepts all popular HD and SD formats, with complete flexibility for
legalizing HDI-SDI or SD-SDI signals. The DL-860 output format tracks the
input format, and the signal can be legalized to HD, SD, RGB and/or Encoded
color space. CRC values are monitored and recalculated to ensure proper
output values. Input equalization added to the incoming video is displayed
on the front panel. The DL-860 has a selection to pass or blank all
ancillary data without any alteration except CRC correction. All limits are
variable, allowing for many custom configurations to the HD Clips, SD Clips,
Encoded gamut and RGB gamut limits. Direct access and operation of the
DL-860 is straightforward – from the backlit, front-panel LCD display to the
LED status indications, function selection buttons, and knob that allows
easy menu navigation. All operational parameters, including the selectable
bypass function, are also supported via Ethernet using the embedded Web
server interface. The DL-860 also supports the Leitch CCS Navigator(tm)
control and monitoring software and the NUCLEUS(tm) user-customizable
control panel.
Backed by more than 30 years of test and measurement engineering excellence
and more than a decade of experience addressing the complexity of serial
digital video correction and legalization, the DL-860 is the newest addition
to the Harris legalizer product line. The line also includes the original
DL-810 for standard-definition input, which features a straightforward and
versatile user interface that is emulated throughout the Harris line of
serial digital legalizers.
