GoPro talks often about how it isn't just a camera company that makes cameras for capturing images but is also a camera company that makes cameras to capture experiences. How they accomplish this, beyond just marketing hype, is actually very interesting. Besides a very affordable price that now gives users a choice of three different camera models across the HERO3 line, there's an aesthetic element in the "GoPro look," as well as the camera's size and design, enforcing the idea that you can put one just about anywhere and everywhere.

After completing the GoPro Land press event (there were simultaneous press events on the Sea and in the Air) on Wednesday at Sonoma Raceway, I wanted to share some of that experience with my friends, family and readers. But after offloading 14 Gigs of media, my older Macbook Air had other ideas. It let me know right away that editing of that video would have to wait until I got back to a more powerful machine. I did discover, however, that I was able to grab a number of very nice still images from the video I shot that captured a few exciting moments of my really fast rides in a variety of different wheeled vehicles, including the ride above with a driving instructor from the Simraceway Performance Driving Center. I sent those first over to friends and family and they were able to get just a taste of the experience I had at the track, thanks to GoPro.

Tyler McQuarrie drifting the GoPro Camaro a few feet from the spectators.

Watching the sport bikes race by at well over 100 mph with riders hanging on, chase bike behind.

Being that rider on the sport bike as we slung the bike over, going around a curve at speed.

Getting out on the track in an Audi R8, and trying to get simultaneously comfortable with both the track and the handling of the car.

Starting to really push that Audi R8 in a follow-the-leader style drive behind the driving instructor.

THE highlight of my day: Doing hot laps in the Audi R8 with IndyCar Series driver JR Hildebrand at the wheel.

I had all these fun experiences courtesy of GoPro, the company, but I'll also be able to capture and remember all my other experiences in life thanks to my GoPro camera. Can't wait to get back home to my Mac Pro so I can really start to look at this footage.
