Customers Get a Price Break on Studio, Which Now Includes RenderMan for Maya

Pixar launched upgrades for both RenderMan Pro Server and RenderMan Studio today, adding a new physically plausible shader library to RenderMan Studio 4.0 and optimizing performance for object instancing, photon-mapping and volume-rendering in RenderMan Pro Server 17.0.

As previously reported, the beefed-up RenderMan Studio 4.0 slims down the Pixar product line by combining RenderMan for Maya with RenderMan Studio. Pixar is also cutting the price dramatically.

In making the announcement, Pixar focused on positive feedback from beta sites including Double Negative, Telefutura Network, Animal Logic, and Bigman. Those endorsements can be viewed in a company press release about the new releases.

RenderMan Pro Server 17.0 lists for $2,000 per license, though volume discounts are available. RenderMan Studio 4.0 runs $1,300 per license and is compatible with Maya 2013 for Windows, Linux, and OS X. Upgrade pricing is available "on request." (The company previously said upgrades from RenderMan for Maya to RenderMan Studio 4.0 will be the same price they were for previous versions — $300.) Students and educators are in luck — a "student bundle" including both products is just $200.
