Stereoscopic 3D: Fad or Not?

Post your comments below

Editors debate whether stereoscopic 3D is here to stay or if it will soon disappear just like it has in the past. Hear reasons why 3D may be different this time around and why some don't buy any of it.

Nice roundtable conversation, although a bit short and not everyone is participating.
Please keep in mind that the stereoscopic experience from an LCD screen cannot be the same as in an auditorium with a large cinema screen (be it silver or not). So although you can edit in 3D on monitors to get (somewhat of) the right pace or fiddle with adjusting the depth, you really should do a first cut screening at some point in an auditorium to see if it (editing, VFX, 3-D conversion, dimensionalisation) all works, there is no 1:1 translation. This is also valid for the way back (going from a cinema stereoscopic experience or master to a home cinema one).
These are issues hardly ever discussed. You may want to upgrade your posthouse's screening room to a 3D one as well for these matters.
