* Globalstor Data Corporation's ExtremeStor-DI, has been certified for
use with Iridas' FrameCycler DDS and SpeedGrade DI, and for use with
Assimilate's Scratch Data-Centric Workflow Solution, the latter
shipping with a Bluefish444 HD|Lust 10-bit uncompressed capture card.
*Da Vinci Systems introduced three hardware configurations for its
Resolve digital mastering suite: the base-level Resolve FX, Resolve DI,
and Resolve RT, for real-time image processing in film, digital
intermediate, and video finishing. A collaboration with DVS, maker of
the Clipster conforming tool, improves the nonlinear functionality of
its 2K Plus image enhancement solution.
* Celco introduced the Firestorm 2, which will output a high-res 2K
frame in 1.8 seconds. Firestorm 2 outputs multiple film stocks and
multiple film formats and has the option to add 2,000ft split film
magazines.
*Imagica upgraded the Imager XE Advanced Plus Digital Scanner, which
now scans 35mm at 1.9 seconds per frame for 4K and 1.3 second per frame
for 2K. The new Imager HSX High Speed Scanner scans 35mm motion picture
film to 4K|2K, 10bit|color DPX digital data files at the speed of 1
frame-per-second for 4K and 3-frames-per second for 2K, using Kodak
Digital Ice Technology for scratch/dirt detection.
*Digital Vision's Nucoda DVO (Digital Vision Optics) Station now
resides in a Boxx Technologies 8-core, 4-processor workstation that
provides a ten-fold increase in speed for data-centric color correction.
*Cintel and Digital Vision showed dataMill, a calibrated 2 and 4K data
transfer engine, working in conjunction with DV's Nucoda Film Master.
*The Mac and Windows-compatible Version 2.0 of the Kodak Look Manager
System features an enhanced project-oriented approach, allowing
cinematographers to import and organize images on a per-scene basis,
assign metadata and basic looks, which can then be further
color-corrected, viewed and compared on calibrated monitors with other
system users.
*eCinema Systems' reference-grade, color-calibrated high-definition LCD
for HD and DI workflows, offers a 23-inch diagonal view, four-inch
width and weight of 22 pounds. eCinema Systems Surround Lighting System
can be used to produce the optimum viewing environment out of the box.
*Quantel unveiled three versions of The Pablo Suite, a color-grading
environment built on eQ, iQ and Eiger hardware and software: the eQ
Pablo Suite for HD applications; the iQ2 Pablo Suite for 2K digital
intermediates and the iQ4 Pablo Suite for up to and including 4K DI.
*Real-time 4K remote dailies were ping-ponged between Japan and
California at the iGrid 2005 international symposium on grid computing
and high bandwidth networking. Uncompressed 4K digital footage (from
the Dalsa Origin camera) was fed into a Silicon Graphics Prism
visualization system, encoded using an NTT JPEG 2000 encoder, and sent
over fiber optic IP networks to San Diego where it was decoded and
played back on a prototype Sony SXRD 4K projector. Modifications were
compressed, re-sent, decoded and played.
