Windows users are getting a big HD power boost. Blackmagic Design, creator of the DeckLink series of editing and compositing video cards and converters, has announced support of uncompressed HD video for Adobe Production Studio and Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 for Windows PCs.
Blackmagic's new software, the first available with 4:4:4 10-bit RGB video capabilities, supports real-time effects at HD resolution and a full 10-bit workflow within Adobe Production Studio applications. Content can be moved seamlessly between the video and graphics applications, including Premiere Pro 2.0, After Effects 7.0 and Photoshop CS2.
Blackmagic recently demonstrated a new Adobe OpenHD turnkey system in Intel's booth at the Sundance Film Center in Park City, Utah. The configuration includes an HP XW8200 dual-core Xeon workstation with Adobe Production Studio, Blackmagic's Multibridge Extreme breakout box, the DeckLink HD Pro video card, with the latest software drivers supporting Adobe's Production Studio, and the Workgroup Videohub router.
Blackmagic's Multibridge Extreme breakout box is a bi-directional A/D and D/A converter that allows editors to seamlessly switch between HD and SD material, and supports dual-link HD-SDI 4:4:4. The Multibridge connects to editing systems via PCI Express boards at 10 GBps-25 times faster than FireWire.
All DeckLink HD series cards are dual rate, enabling instant switching between HD-SDI and SD-SDI and featuring 10 bit SDI. The Workgroup Videohub automatically switches between SD-SDI and HD-SDI with full 12×24 routing.
Blackmagic Design has also released Universal version 2.1 of software for its HDLink HD/SD-SDI to DVI monitoring converter. HDLink, designed for LCD monitors, now features support for PowerPC and the new Intel-based Mac workstations.
